The World Has Already Been Decided

Truth is managed. History is controlled. And questioning doesn't exist. Until the edges begin to crack.

Thorne

The one who was never meant to see.

Grief

To see clearly is to lose something.

The Undeveloped

The land the State says is empty. It isn't.

The State

Truth managed. History controlled. Walls that keep the map small.

The Tunnel

A refuge of linked chambers, walled in by woven roots.

Truth vs Deception

Truth is not absent. It's buried.

Faith as Reality

Not symbolic. Living, active, unavoidable.

The Story

The State buried him. The tunnel watered him. Now he grows toward rebellion.

In a country ruled by scripture, the truth is whatever the Flame decrees.

Thorne Ingram's family feeds the State. They designed the towers that grow its food, and in a nation that burns the impure to stay pure, being useful is the closest thing to being safe.

Then the crops fail. Sire Wise announces the Ingrams have already found the cure, before they have, and orders their untested poison sprayed through the towers. Within days a man lies dead, and every screen in the State names the killers: Thorne's family.

Now they are running into the Undeveloped, the land beyond the fence. The land the State swears is empty.

It isn't.

What waits there is stranger than the stories. People the State used as test subjects. Strangers whose pasts run straight through his own. Light that breathes from the walls. For a while it feels like sanctuary, until the price of the truth comes due and the tunnel's new leader proves willing to collect it in full.

Some truths are buried. Some are only waiting to be found.

Roots of Rebellion is a YA dystopian novel for readers of The Giver and for anyone drawn to the post-collapse faith of the film The Book of Eli. A coming-of-age story rooted in loss, hope, and spiritual awakening, about what happens when one boy begins to wonder whether he was made for more than obedience.

Truth vs Deception

Systems are sustained by carefully maintained illusions. But truth has a way of surfacing. Quietly at first. Then all at once.

Grief

Awakening is not clean. Sometimes the cost of truth is the life you thought you would live.

Faith as Reality

Not distant, abstract, or optional. It meets people in the dark, and it welcomes examination and doubt.

The World

Every world tells a story in its shape

Three hand-drawn ink maps from inside the book. Some things are exactly where they seem. Others are not.
